MEET IAN ALLISON: GIC’s TRANSPORTATION & SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGER

News

From Ian Allison, Transportation and Supply Chain Manager:

“I was reading through some Instagram posts the other day by Tommy Rivers Puzey (an amazing endurance athlete) and I stumbled upon this quote from Van Gogh, “great things are done by a series of small things brought together.” This is a great summation of life! We often don’t think of the simple acts that have created grandeur in our lives—they’re often taken for granted.

Van Gogh’s quote makes me wonder about the greatness that I have in my life and the small acts that were stacked upon each other that forged it all together. My wife Lisa and I have been together for almost 18 years; we’ll be celebrating our 15th anniversary in July. We have 3 amazing children: Aidan, Kieran and Teagan. Our lives are just like many others—frenetic—filled with noise, and small moments that create successes and joy through the grind!

My educational and career path has been filled with small choices that have greatly impacted my life. While at the University of Pittsburgh working toward a degree in English Literature, I was drawn to the philosophical writings of Socrates, Plato and the like. This led to graduating with a dual degree in Politics and Philosophy and also English Lit. Entering the supply chain industry over 12 years ago was not what I had originally envisioned after graduation. Yet moments, piled upon moments led to a rewarding career at C.H. Robinson, which grew into a great opportunity to work with GIC.

As I further reflect on Van Gogh’s words, I wonder about the GIC family and all of the small things that have been done together, to create great success! There must be uncountable instances of handshakes, sweat and smiles that have formed the company as it is today. I’m grateful for this opportunity and implore us all to continue to add the “small things” that will bring greatness to GIC.”

Please welcome Ian in his new role as GIC’s Transportation & Supply Chain Manager!
