A first-hand update from Houston

Kathy Crawford (GIC General Manager – Houston) provides a first-hand update from Houston, highlighting the resolve of Houston residents and the well-being of several General Insulation employees.

“Below is a Facebook post from a dear friend that had to evacuate with her husband and 3 young daughters:

‘Our city has been crippled. Both airports closed until further notice, our world class Medical Center has essentially become inaccessible, to which our largest Level 1 trauma center has been evacuated. Every major road has a dire status and now they are issuing major evacuations due to dam/reservoir releases. Unprecedented, widespread, unrelenting amounts of water. BIBLICAL proportions.

I weep for Houston, but I also weep in sheer pride and admiration for our community, the citizens who have selfish-lessly shown unwavering heroism. From the common man – the immediate amount of resources and boats, the resiliency of the First Responders and the steadfast commitment from the local officials to get everyone taken care of swiftly in such horrible conditions. Well done.’

Latest Employee Update:

Kyle Kulhanek had water coming in through roof, but drilled holes to prevent further damage
David Giles called and he and his family are getting on boats to go to shelter, water rising too quickly
Hugh Staples evacuating to hopefully hotel as water is approaching their house

Branch Update:

290 is still closed at 529 and 6 and all off ramps on 290 are closed, we still can’t get to the branch.
The property management company sent an email out earlier that they cannot access any properties due to all the major freeways being shut down.

I have opened up the ranch for anyone that needs a place to go, so far I have had a friend with 2 horses and 2 dogs take my offer. This afternoon she learned her entire place is going under water.

Words cannot describe what we are dealing with at this time…..as individuals and as a community…

We have another 10-12” rain coming to the area tonight.

Due to Hurricane Harvey, GIC Houston Branch’s Business/Shipping & Receiving Hours will be Effected.
