historyIn April of 1982, Jack Doherty sold General Insulation Company to Frank Granara. At that time, General Insulation Company had only a single location in Somerville, MA. Within a few short years, GIC opened another location in Auburn, MA (later relocated to Millbury), followed by Lewiston, ME and Hartford, CT.

General Insulation Company then implemented an aggressive growth strategy and by the end of 1999, had opened 12 additional branches, including one in Atlanta in preparation for the 1996 Olympic Games, and one in the largest market in the United States – New York City.

In 2008, General Insulation acquired Clark Insulation, which became GIC’s 32nd location. Shortly thereafter, the company opened up another west coast operation – this time in the greater Seattle area.

Expansion continued in 2014 with new branches opening in Birmingham, AL and Milford, CT.
